WINE SHOP

The clients wished to transform a former mobile-phone shop into a small, intimate and precious wine shop within historic rooms recalling the old arcaded shops overlooking Piazza G. Malvezzi in the heart of Desenzano.Vaults and lunettes built entirely from terracotta brick made these rooms naturally suited to their new purpose, providing an architectural setting of great charm and authenticity. Carefully selected materials and furnishings respond to this inherent richness, establishing a harmonious dialogue with the place’s history through mutual respect and enhancement.Bespoke displays occupy the recesses of the lunette vaults, with bare iron frames, glass shelves and backlit panels that highlight the products and their value. Refined grazing light across the lunettes emphasises the terracotta texture and strengthens the historic character of the entire interior. The counter, set at a carefully considered angle to the entrance and walls, becomes the compositional centre of the shop. Its linear form makes it the pivot around which the entire design revolves, giving it the leading role in the space.Distinctive materials—craquelé surfaces, gold-leaf cladding, back-painted glass and smoked mirrors—take the counter beyond its conventional role, creating a genuine meeting place between knowledgeable, welcoming staff and enthusiasts of fine wines. Finally, the lightness of the entrance, defined by sliding glass doors, allows an immediate, complete view of the space from outside, inviting natural access and creating an ongoing, refined dialogue between interior and exterior.
